I also have a bit of a problem. Have any of you played Hydorah? It's a shmup that states that it was hugely influenced by a number of games, including Turrican. But the controls are very poor, and when I try to remap them, it doesn't work.

It´s not: Turrican is Factor 5´s trademark if they release a game or not. If you want to do something commercially you have to use another name. Even the non-commercial Turrican games usually stick to somehing without Turrican.

It's not as easy as you make it sound. You have to have a complete dev team ready to work for a year or two. Don't think the current owners of the Turrican rights have that.
